SOCI1310 : Introduction to Sociology

This course is a general introduction to the study of sociology, which is the systematic study of human society and the social forces that shape human social life. The goal of this course is to provide students with an overview of how sociology helps us understand human societies, human relationships, group aspects of behavior, and social institutions.

SOCI3310 : Cultural Diversity

This course is designed to provide an understanding of human behavior and the social environment. It centers on diversity and vulnerable populations as related to groups, organizations, communities, and special populations as a context of practice and focus of intervention. The reciprocal effects among system levels are emphasized. The behaviors, consequences of transactions as well as diversities and similarities within groups are viewed. Throughout this course, we will explore how elements of the social structure construct categories of race, class, gender, sexuality, disability, and age have been transformed into systems of oppression and privilege. Appropriate theoretical frameworks and the interplay of social work values and ethics will be linked to these areas of focus.

SOCI3350 : Organizational Behavior

This course will explore organizational behavior through analysis, evaluation, comparison and contrast and other means of exploration. By participating in discussion, creating written assignments, writing in journals and creating two case studies, students will learn about individuals and groups in organization. The course will also explore, motivation, morale, leadership, training and development, unions and other aspects about organizational behavior. Finally, there will be a brief overview of organizational systems and structures.
